I forgot to explain why I wasn't at the Oval on the Sunday to see England capturing back the Ashes. My wife had a far more important fixture for me to attend, having invited me to umpire a match taking place in Cambridge in support of Addenbrooke's Abroad, between the surgeons and students. The students were vigorous, enthusiastic and determined in this 30-over match, but unfortunately for them, the surgeons were wily, experienced and wicked...and won by three wickets. Give them time.
