Went to On the Waterfront last night at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. Those of us who are old enough to remember the film with Marlon Brando, Karl Malden and Lee J Cobb, could have been forgiven for being aprehensive. No need to be, it was a magnificent performance, as the critics have suggested, and Simon Merrells as Terry Malloy and Steven Berkoff as Johnny Friendly, helped one forget there had ever been an original film. The audience fell interestingly into two parts - regular, dedicated theatre-goers, alongside large groups of the young who laughed in different places to the old, which can't have been easy for the actors. I dined afterwards with Steven Berkoff, who tells me he's hoping to take the play to Hong Kong and Australia before the end of the year. This one is highly recommended, and I consider A View from the Bridge and On the Waterfront are the two best plays in London at the moment. Don't miss either of them.

One more question on "royalty" could be, if the Prince of Wales has an offspring thru the Duchess of Cornwall, would he/she precede Prince Andrews (the Duke of York) in the order of succesion. I know its an improbability at this age, but hey this question could become relavant in the future...cheers

As you are real enthusiast of the stage and of the theatre- i was wondering whether you had seen THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE A HOME. I avent seen the same, but read about it. From what i have read, it seems that there is a charachter in the drama named Jeffrey Archer, who is also a bestselling auhtor.
Did you see the said drama...and what are your thoughts on ebing made a charachter in a fictional drama/ movie
