Art Heist

I had a phone call from Mary last night to tell me that thieves had stolen two statues from our garden in Cambridge - our wonderful bronze of 'Shepherd and Sheep' which is actually five separate pieces, and was commissioned from local sculptor Christopher Marvell. They also stole a bronze of a girl doing a handstand by the late Sydney Harpley RA.

Here is a picture of the statues - 'Handstand' is just visible in the background - anyone who spots them, please let me know!

I'm nearing the end of my first draft of 'A Prisoner of Birth' and by tomorrow will have written around 170,000 words. I'll be back in London next week, but I just wanted to thank all of you who have written and posted comments, about both the ITV programme Fortune: Million Pound Giveaway on Tuesday evenings, and also on my forthcoming book, 'The Gospel According to Judas', which will be published on March 20th - this is much appreciated.

The new BBC 2 show, The Verdict, on which I am a member of the jury, begins on Sunday evening at 9.00pm. Hope you enjoy it.

Hello Jeffrey

That is rotten news about your statues...why do some people have to spoil things for others? If I see them being offered round any pubs in Glasgow, I'll let you know!

Happy writing
Kind regards
David

Very sorry to hear about the theft of your statues - I do hope they turn up and that they catch the scumbags that made off with them!

At one time it would have been studants but now they will probably be melted down and sold as scrap.

Nothing is safe now we do not have police foot patrols.

Hello Again M'Lord

Just finished Cat'o Nine Tales

Superb throughout and can't wait for The Gospel

Enjoyed your reference to Chateau Dquem at Villa Rosa though I'm unsure if the Wine Makers of Italy would have chosen to round off their meal in the same manner, still........ I would have asked for a bottle regardles of my whereabouts.

An Excellent read M'lord and Thank you

Ian

Hello Jeffrey

It's such a shame that people feel they have the right to takes other people's hard earned possessions. Wouldn't it be awful if these were melted down and lost forever! I do hope they are recovered and that the 'people' responsible are caught.

On a lighter note, I have just watched 'The Verdict' and thought it was a brilliant piece of television. Once again, as with ‘Fortune: Million Pound Giveaway’, you are the voice of intelligence and reason.

In spite of your 'experience' with the judicial system, I do feel that if more people had the same values as you, the World would indeed be a better place.

Am really looking forward to your next book, Cat O' Nine Tails was fantastic.

Comparing recent art prices, what really interests these ‘elite’ robbers is actually more likely to be the price of copper. It would be horrible to think that these statues are no more. A horrible pointless crime.

I cannot believe that you changed your mind at the last moment in 'The Verdict'. Those two lads were obviously guilty and your first instinct was the right one. You should have stuck to it.
Disappointed.
